|
|
Let's take a look at what we know or don't know of the life of Timothy and Sarah Winslow.
TIMOTHY AND SARAH AND THERE SONS JOHN AND THOMAS WERE OF THE QUAKER FAITH. WHO WERE SARAH'S PARENTS? WERE THERE OTHER WINSLOW CHILDREN?
A Timothy Winslow witnesses the will of Joseph Pierce in 1706. Joseph was married to a Damaris Nixon, and was son of John and Mary Scott Pierce, Francis Toms was a brother in law. Mary Scott later married William Bundy, father of Mary Bundy who married Timothy Cleare Mary Scott later married Nichols Symons. All Quaker families, so did Sarah come from one of these families?
Timothy Winslow, was a contemporary of Timothy Clear, and put his son, Thomas, to some form of business employ or apprenticeship with the prosperous Timothy Clear.
From the Winslow-Morris Bible
"Thomas Winflow the son of Timothy Winflow and Sarah his wife was born the first day of Agust in the year of our Lord God 1682"
"Thoams Winflow ye son of Timothy Winflow and Sarah his wife Departed this life ye 26th day of ye 9 month in ye year of our Lord God 1745"

Timothy Winslow was in Perquimans Co., NC, by 1704.
Timothy WINSLOW, b.ca 1654 d.ca.1725 in North Carolina. Timothy was a tenant fanner on the land of Isaac WILSON. He was illiterate and did not purchase land or make a will. He contributed money to build the first Quaker MH in Perquimans Counlty, N.C.
Timothy Winslow's name appears in a listing of persons giving money to the Friends (Quakers) in Perquimans Co. about 1704 for possibly building a meeting house. The figures "0-05-00" follow his name, which probably was indicating a contribution of five shillings.
Timothy witnessed a deed from Samuel Bond to Susanna Robinson 3 Apr 1707.
Timothy Winslow witnessed the marriage of John Winslow and Esther Snelling on 10 Oct 1716 at the house of Timothy Cleare. He was the second witness to sign the marriage certificate.
Timothy was named in "A Genll: Accot of Tax Money Recd for ye year 1716 by J: Jessop Treasurr of Pequimons Precinct" as liable to seven shillings six pence land tax but no tithable tax. He is also named in an undated Perquimans tax list taken when Richd. Leary was clerk of the precinct court.
Timothy Winslow witnessed the will of William Carman of Perquimans on 12 Aug 1725. This is the last specific record of Timothy Winslow found to date.
The provision in Isaac Willson's will regarding Timothy Winslow occupying certain land until his death may be connected with a deed of sale from Joseph Elliott to Jacob Perry on 20 Oct 1740. The deed recites that the land being conveyed had been given by Isaac Willson to Ann, who was the wife of Thomas Elliott and the mother of Joseph Elliott. This seems to provide the only real clue as to the time of Timothy's death, since the Elliotts should not have entered into possession of the land while Timothy was alive. |

| Was Timothy the only Winslow of his age in North Carolina during his time period? No other contemporaries, male or female? Did he just "appear" on the scene with no other relatives? There must be a connection with someone that was there at the time he was. Timothy was BORN in North Carolina and yet we can not find a relative? I don't get it. |

WE DO NOT KNOW WHERE TIMOTHY WINSLOW WAS BORN OR THE MAIDEN NAME OF HIS WIFE SARAH. WE DO KNOW FROM DNA TESTING THAT HE IS NOT THE SON OF JOSEPH OF NEW ENGLAND AS WE HAD ALL THOUGHT. ALTHOUGH DNA ALSO SHOWS THAT HE WAS A DISTANCE RELATION TO ALL THE WINSLOW'S OF NEW ENGLAND. JOSEPH WINSLOW SON OF JOHN OF NEW ENGLAND IS THE ONLY OTHER WINSLOW FOUND IN THE RECORDS IN PERQUIMANS CO DURING THAT TIME.
I HAVE FOUND A SHIP RECORD OF A SARAH WINSLOE COMING TO VIRGINIA FROM BRISTOL ENGLAND IN 1682. WAS SHE THE WIFE OF TIMOTHY COMING TO JOIN HER HUSBAND IN AMERICA. WE JUST DON'T KNOW WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOME ENGLISH WINSLOW'S IN OUR DNA PROJECT. MAYBE THAT WOULD HELP US FIND A ANSWER. _________________ HOPE WINSLOW STANLEY |

| I am working on the WINSLOW connection to the ELLIOTT family. I have a Thomas Elliott married to an (Margaret?) Winslow, and their son Caleb, who married Ann Winslow. Thomas' first wife was Sarah (?), sons were Thomas (my line) Robert and Abraham. All were Quakers, and settled in Pa until the migration to Ohio. I would be happy to share what I have to see if it is what you are looking for. |

Sorry I have been so long in answering your note. My husband had back surgery and things have been a little busy around here,
We also have Elliott's marring into the Winslow family here in NC. and Caleb is one of the Elliott and Winslow family names. I would love to know about your family line in Penn.
