Here’s a question you would think would be easy with all the documentation available on this couple. However, as I look over the web and other resources, the answers are all over the place. The children of John Winslow and Mary Chilton have been documented in both John and Mary’s wills. However, I’ve never been confident in the information I’ve seen for their birth dates. The children I have listed are:
John (1627-1683)
Sarah (1638-1726)
Susannah (1627-1685)
Samuel (1641-1680)
Mary (1626-1683)
Issac (1644-1670)
Joseph (1628-1679)
Ann (1648-1673)
Edward (1634-1682)
Benjamin (1653-1673)
It's obvious some of these dates are wrong. I have never seen anything that says that John and Susannah were twins. Also when looking at John’s and Mary’s wills it looks like that John is the oldest son and Susannah is the oldest daughter (no fact here just the order and what was left to them brings me to that conclusion). First of all is this the correct list of children, are they in the correct order of birth and finally does anyone have evidence of their birth dates? |

I was on genforum (Jim had pointed me in that direction) where Wade Collier had referenced new material available on the John Winslow lineage. Apparently, these are digital pictures he had taken and is making them available for a nominal fee. I expect to be receiving the CD in the next week or so. Below is an excerpt from his posting on the genforum.

Also, more particularly for researchers interested in the descendants of Edward Winslow's brother, John (1597 - bef. May 21, 1674), and his wife, Mayflower passenger Mary Chilton (Ca. 1606 - Bef. May 1, 1679), I am happy to announce that several manuscripts covering that family will soon be available at the NEHGS. These documents were prepared over a period of many years by Winslow descendant James Fullerton Trott, a distinguished citizen of Niagara Falls, NY who died there in 1898. The papers eventually came into the possession of Dr. Charles Alcorn, who has kindly allowed me to use them in my own research, with the understanding that they would then go to the NEHGS. I do not believe that a full genealogy of the John Winslow-Mary Chilton descendants has ever been prepared, although the first generations are covered in the "Mayflower Descendants Through Five Generations" series, originally vol. 2, but now superseded by vol. 15. |

Well I received the CD from Wade Collier and it is chocked full of information on the early Winslows (Although I didn’t get my answer on the birth dates for John & Mary’s children). Wade gave me permission to post some of the information on the website but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) it is all relative high definition photos. The file sizes are too large for the website. I may see if I can locate a free site that can manage the large file sizes so we can share them with everyone. |

Well I changed the dates of John and Mary Chilton Winslow's children's births again. Check it out: http://winslowtree.com/tree/getperson.php?personID=I37&tree=winslow The ordering the Trott papers seemed more reasonable than what Herzfeld had. Although, that left me with no date for Joseph. Herzfeld thinks it his birth is abt. 1626 because he was listed as being able to carry arms in 1643 and she thinks 15 is the date to be able to do that. Everything I read about him makes me think he's not an older child. If he was born after Edward, like Trott has him, he would be about 10 years younger than she's calculating. |

Do the Trott papers (or any new published info) give us any insight as to John Jr.'s second marriage to Judith _______, or whether the Judith Winslow who married John Packard in Taunton is related to this family?
Long a mystery! |

| I've looked through the Trott documents and haven't found anything additional about Judith. |
