from Robert Forbes Winslow's family Bible.

When Robert Forbes Winslow (a descendant of James Chilton through his daughter Mary and John Winslow, brother of Edward) was a young New York lawyer, he served as Recording Secretary for the American Bible Society. In 1836, he resigned from that post to move his law practice to Chicago. In recog­nition of his service, the Society presented him with a large ceremonial bible, published in 1834, that included in its binding a resolution of the Society’s esteem of his service.

In the section of the bible reserved for recording family history, Mr. Winslow traced his origins to the Mayflower, including births, marriages and deaths. He continued making entries as events unfolded until the time of his death in 1889. Thereafter, the bible entries were maintained by his daughter, Isabella Winslow Clayton, until her death in 1933. From 1933 until 1983, the entries were main­tained by Isabel Clayton, Isabella’s daughter and a librarian at Stanford University. The bible is now in the joint possession of Clayton Clement and his sister, Gail Winslow Clement Berger, Isabella Winslow Clayton’s great-grand­children, who have kept the entries current.

BIRTHS

Thomas Winslow, born in Boston, Mass U.S.A. Feb 12, 1772, he is descended as follows:

John Winslow, born in Droitwich England AD 1596 came to the U.S. with other of the pilgrim fathers in Barque Fortune and landed at Plymouth rock 1621. He married in Plymouth Miss Mary Chilton the first female who set her foot on the American shore. He died in Boston 1674 at age 78. She died in same place in 1678. Edward Winslow his 4th son was born in Plymouth 1634, his 2nd wife was Elizabeth Hutchins by whom he had 1 son and 4 daughters. He died in 1682 in Boston at age 48, his wife in 1728 at age 89. Edward Winslow (eldest son of the above Edward) was born in 1669, married Hannah Moody by whom had 9 sons and 2 daughters. He died in Boston 1753 at age 84. Isaac Winslow youngest son of the last mentioned was born in 1701 his 2nd wife was Jemima Dubuc by whom he had 2 children, - Samuel and Thomas above named. Isaac died in New York 1777 and is buried in Trinity Church yard.
